final report

One of the oldest sport in U.A.E which I have chosen for the purpose of discussion is “falconry”. My primary reason for doing that is firstly due to its cultural significance to the U.A.E and secondly the way it has transformed over a period of time from its actual purpose into a modern day sport. It can also be observed that falconry was seen as an essential part of desert life for several centuries. Falconry in the olden days was not really a sport, this goes back to more than 40 years ago. Typically speaking, falconry was seen to be used originally for practical purposes, this came down to feeding the families, i.e. supplementing the meager diet of milk, bread and dates. There is no denying that falconry is significant to the traditional life and culture of U.A.E, this clearly displays the Bedouin passion for such a sport. Within a traditional context, falcon in Arabic is referred to as “Saqr”; this is a bird which is popularly adored by Arabs due to the appealing beauty, disposition, sharp eyesight and magnificence.
On the other hand, the term ‘falconry’ is known as ‘Al Qanas’ in the U.A.E dialect.

With regards to the interview conducted with my grandfather regarding falconry, I was interested in knowing his experience, knowledge and more about the olden days of falconry. He spoke greatly about the greatness of falconry as a sport and as a means of feeding families during the olden days. Patience was needed to practice such a sport back then and even now. This was followed by strength and endurance. My grandfather explained to me that there was a great deal of hard work that went into working with falcons. “It was not an easy task, he explained, you needed courage and patience since it was important to tame the falcon and making the falcon obey the trainer was a must.”

case study reflection

Case study refection

In my case study I worked in a group of 4 students including myself, because its easier to handle everything required on our case study. We chose this organization because it is one of the old clubs in Abu Dhabi. On the other hand it has different kind of facilities that would make our case study much easier and we would have too much to talk about .We decided to collect the information from one of the executive sales managers in the club and through the catalogue the handed out , after we interviewed the manager ,which we chose to get our information to briefly know almost everything about the club.

During our interview we found out some offers from the members of the club ,so it encouraged us to register at the club. The interviewer gave us information we didn’t know ; although its not our first time visiting the club . At the end we expected some answers and some we were shocked , one of the things we knew is that non-members  are not allowed in certain facilities. The information we got is related to sports and leisure more than society , because its all about a variety of facilities and sports are a kind of leisure.

To complete your case study you need good English so you can interview someone in the club you’re going to visit , not all clubs have a person that could speak Arabic ; at the end your case study should be done in English, so your going to face difficulties if your English is weak. I think the club should increase their public relations, when we wanted to shoot a video , almost everybody refused  to be in a video ; they should organize a section for public relations. A nd the club should not be restricted to only members of the club , because we have a large of number of people  who have diabetes . I would’ve visit the club by  myself to figure out every inch of it and them research a bit , after that I would do a survey and see what’s the opinion of the people whom visited the club , then I will interview a person in the club , that will make me ready to ask as many questions as I want . The more information I get I more accurate my case study will be.
